They're Baaaaack!

If anyone still reads our blog--please excuse our neglect! The Second Light Paranormal team has been busy out investigating, reviewing evidence, and being consumed with all things paranormal lately.

We've been on some pretty amazing investigations including our annual pilgrimage to the Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Louisville, KY this past March where we collected an outstanding amount of evidence. Here's one of the videos we posted to YouTube of some of the captured EVPs from this investigation:

Recently, we've investigated several private residences which have also provided a good deal of compelling evidence, which will be updated to our website shortly. This Halloween we'll be leading a public investigation of Easy's Bar in Hamilton, OH and look forward to that!

This is a slightly more philosophical post and one that I hope may spur some conversation.

In the search for the paranormal we most often find ourselves investigating places where terrifying and terrible things have happened. (ex. Waverly, the Oxford Lights, etc.) My question is, why?

If one believes these entities are in fact spirits drawn back or unable to leave, why are spirits not also drawn to places of great pleasure or comfort to them during their living years?

If you believe these are energetic imprints left in a place where great emotional and/or physical energy was exerted, do we not also express great energy when we are happy? Even current energetic imprints of repetitive activities tend to be left in places where some negative event has occurred.

Perhaps it is my living pursuit of happiness leading me to think spirits would be equally, if not more, drawn to places of comfort or positive experience. Regardless I am perplexed and wondering if others might have some ideas.

SLP Summer Update

Summer's here and things are heating up for Second Light Paranormal. We have many upcoming investigations ahead of us, including an overnight at Loveland Castle in Loveland, OH. We went there last Friday during the day to scope the place out and it looks like it should be a great investigation. Some of the hauntings reported seem possible to debunk, but we're going to keep open minds!

We have several private residences to check out locally and our lead investigator will be doing some preliminary investigating down in Cape Hatteras, NC at a restaurant with a lot of activity as well as the lighthouse. We're also going to scope out the Promont House in Milford, OH to see if the stories there are possible to debunk or truly paranormal.

The Oxford Light

There are many stories of the activity surrounding "The Oxford Light" on Oxford Milford Rd. near the Miami University campus in Oxford, OH.

"This haunting comes from just outside of Oxford. The story goes that two forbidden lovers would meet up a certain driveway along the road. The girl take her father's car and pull out to the end of the road and flash her lights three times to signal to her boyfriend to come over. One night as he began down the road, a young boy was riding his bicycle in the road. The boyfriend, riding a motorcycle, didn't see the boy until it was too late. Both the boy and the boyfriend died. The girl later hang herself in the barn, of which, on remnants remain. It is said that if you go to the spot where the girl would flash her lights, and flash your lights three times towards the road, you can see small flashing red lights (the reflectors off the bicycle) and then a motorcycle headlight coming down the road. Some have even reported seeing many flashing lights, like at the scene of an accident, after the headlight disappears."

This summary fails to mention that you must park in front of the abandoned house in order for this phenomenon to occur. Additionally, if you park in this spot and see the lights, there have been reports that people saw a shadow of a woman walking behind the vehicle. Some people report seeing a hanging girl in the nearby tree. And others report a young boy approaching the car with an angry look on his face. Some hear the sounds of a revving motorcycle. The most consistent part of all of these stories is that when people drive after the light, they cannot catch it or see any source of the light.

Clearly, there are all kinds of speculations about what may cause this light to appear. People report sometimes seeing a car or truck later come down that road so it could possibly be due to a reflection. Other potential debunking theories include a reflection from a porch light (although there are no nearby lights on the houses surrounding this area) and the old Scooby Doo trick of the bored old man running up and down the road with a flashlight. But my question is, how and why is it so consistent?

Last week, our lead investigator and an investigator-in-training went to scope this out. I'll let them respond to this post with their experiences but I will report that the light appeared for them and there were NO cars or bright lights on the road and the shadow figure appeared behind the vehicle after the light passed. So, we are going to investigate this more thoroughly and have a couple tricks up our sleeves to see if we can debunk "the light." Should be fun!
